What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is an effective, Government backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.
The world today is more connected than ever. This presents a tremendous opportunity for cyber criminals to exploit weaknesses in our computer systems. Cyber attacks are on the increase, they can come in many forms, but the majority are quite simple in nature. They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. Cyber Essentials is designed to prevent these attacks.
As a certification body we can offer you two levels of certification, Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials

Our self-assessment option gives you protection against a wide variety of the most common cyber attacks. This is important because vulnerability to basic attacks can mark you out as target for more in-depth unwanted attention from cyber criminals and others. Certification gives you peace of mind that your defences will protect against the vast majority of common cyber attacks simply because these attacks are looking for targets which do not have the Cyber Essentials technical controls in place. Cyber Essentials shows you how to address those basics and prevent the most common attacks.

Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials Plus still has the Cyber Essentials trademark simplicity of approach, and the protections you need to put in place are the same, but for Cyber Essentials Plus a hands-on technical verification is carried out. Alternatively you can familiarise yourself with cyber security terminology, gaining enough knowledge to begin securing your IT.

It might be important to note, that if your organisation has dealings with the MOD, NHS or any government organisation, even as a contractor or third party supplier, you will need to comply with cybersecurity standards.

Failure to have it in place could mean future contracts not being renewed or awarded, putting all your hard work and organisation in jeopardy.

With cybercrime at an all-time high, it’s not surprising that other organisations are following suit, adding stipulations to supplier contracts requiring them to comply with basic Cyber Security controls.

Although most companies do not enforce the condition at the time of signing, many unsuspecting companies are agreeing to terms without fully understanding the implications or their responsibilities, and therefore are not taking adequate steps to secure their systems and limit their liability.

With Cyber Essentials this is easily fixed.

An up-to-date certification will satisfy basic contractual conditions as well as qualify you for reduced cyber insurance premiums.
